common door lock types

We partner with you to customize your solution.

deadbolts

A deadbolt is a standalone lock that is positioned above the door handle. It is locked or unlocked independently from using the door handle.
best for
Apartment or bedroom doors.

interconnected

A doorknob and a deadbolt that are mechanically “linked” together inside the door. They provide the high security of a deadbolt with the convenience of a single motion egress from the inside.
best for
Apartment doors.

mortise

Think of these as the “heavy-duty” option. Instead of a simple hole through the door, a large, rectangular pocket (the mortise) is carved into the edge of the door to house the lock body.
best for
High-traffic areas.

cylindrical

These are the most common locks found in commercial or office spaces. The locking mechanism is contained entirely within a cylindrical chassis that passes through a large hole bored into the face of the door.
best for
Interior or low-security doors.

exit trim

This refers to the hardware on the outside of a door that has a “panic bar” (exit device) on the inside. You see these on stairwell exits or emergency exits.
best for
Emergency exits.
